World Drowning Prevention Day – Building Lifesaving Skills Through Swim Education
Reading time: 1 minutes

Friday 25 July marks World Drowning Prevention Day, a global reminder that drowning is preventable and that water safety education is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our children.
In Australia, where water is part of our lifestyle, swimming isn’t just a sport, it’s a life skill. That’s why our swim school is proud to be endorsed by Royal Life Saving Society WA (RLS), aligning our program with nationally recognised benchmarks for water safety and survival skills.
These benchmarks aren’t just about swimming laps—they’re about preparing children for real-world situations. For example:
- By age 6, children should be able to enter and exit shallow water unassisted, float to a standing position, and understand basic safety rules. These foundational skills build confidence and independence in the water.
- By age 12, kids should be able to swim continuously for 50 metres, tread water for 2 minutes while signaling for help, and perform surface dives to retrieve objects. These are critical survival skills that could one day save a life.
Our continuous swim school program is designed to help children meet these milestones in a fun, supportive environment. With consistent exposure and expert instruction, kids not only learn how to swim, they learn how to stay safe.
This World Drowning Prevention Day, ask yourself: Can my child do these things? If not, now is the perfect time to start! Learn more about our swim school and enrol today.
